Win,

It might be as simple as a Reagan aide leaking that anything happenining to the hostages, even during a future rescue - was Carter's problem. They had a free hand at dealing with Iran if the hostages were still there when they took over the full reigns of Government.

Just knowing Reagan's public views - no sane Iranian would want him to have an excuse for going into Tehran.

That's the Occam's Razor - but its not as good press as a conspiracy!

John

China blowing hot and cold over Taiwan once again..

American trip opposed
(September 07,2002 ) ((xinhua) )

China strongly opposes the visit to the United States by so-called "Vice-Defence Minister of Taiwan" Kang Ningxiang, Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan said Friday.

When asked to comment on Kang's US visit, the spokesman said China has been consistently opposed to any contact in an official capacity between the United States and Taiwan. China has already voiced its serious concerns to the United States.

If the United States allows Kang to visit, it will seriously violate the three Sino-US joint communiques, and grossly interfere with China's internal affairs, Kong said. And it will send the wrong signals to Taiwan independence seekers and run counter to the interests of the people of China and the US.

The US side should clearly recognize the sensitivity of the Taiwan issue, draw on past lessons and keep its promises so as to avoid impairing Sino-US relations and damaging the common interests of both countries, Kong said.
