For example, if they didn't have all those weapons we sold them. Given the wide disparity in Indonesia's and East Timor's power, it's doubtful that Indonesia needed any additional weapons. The only green light they needed was to know we wouldn't take action - like military intervention or economic sanctions. Should we have done something like this IYO? Or if our UN Ambassador hadn't blocked the UN from intervening. An article you posted noted that we supported a UN resolution calling on Indonesia to withdraw from E Timor. If one country demonstrates that the people of the country can run their own affairs and control their own resources, others might get the same idea. Sheesh, this is ridiculous. Gee, if we didn't like East Timor being independent and running its own affairs and controlling their own resources, wouldn't we have a much bigger problem with all the other independent countries in the region, like Indonesia itself, all of which run their own affairs and control their own resources ?
