I didn't, but I'm not surprised. For whatever reason, Saddam has been demonized as a monster so he's probably not such a bad guy as our propaganda always makes him out to be. >Quite frankly, I don't see anything happening that could destabilize it worse than it already is. Sure, and it's a tragedy that it is so. To a large extent the problems in the region arise (1) from the breakup of the Ottoman Empire after WWI which was presided over by Britain and France who cut up the place as if it was a sausage (2) the persistent interference by the West at the behest of the oil companies and (3) the idea that Israel's security will be enhanced if all the people Sharon doesn't like could "vanish". >unfortunately the US helped create Saddam, so I suppose we are responsible to get rid of him Come to think about it, the US also created bin Laden and Gadaffi. >On the other hand, if we do nothing at all, we may indeed encourage them to move forward towards a coup de gras of some sort. I don't buy that argument. The US didn't strike at the USSR nor at China and they are/were far greater threats than Saddam ever will be. As I see it, the US is simply bullying Iraq into making some sort of response and then will regard that as an act of war. As regards allowing in UN inspectors to check for weapons of mass destruction, or whatever, the Iraqis are damned if they do and damned if they don't. >As for the Iraqi children, I do sympathize. I once sposored an Arab child when I was attending university 15 years ago. My sincere compliments on your compassion and humanity. I have to say it's something that I haven't done. Anyway, whatever will happen, will happen. The wheel will turn. What goes around, comes around. As people sow, so shall they reap. Those who seek to live by the sword will die by the sword --- and there's nothing that you or I can do about it.
