[how can you have 'post war deaths'? ... wouldn't casualties suggest a rather warlike situation, epilogue to the main course if nothing else? ... but don't let me confuse you, it's your history] 'If the Amerikans had stood shoulder to shoulder ' Ah, but some of them did, and they did it well, with great valour .... shoulder to shoulder down the street, cops to the right of them, rednecks to the left of them, they strode on to the goal, one step at a time .... hey hey LBJ how many kids did you kill today .... it was a serious question, only much later did we begin to get partial answers ... there are so many questions .... like, which is the greater crime - to burn a draft card with a match, or to burn human beings with napalm A few weeks ago i personally stood shoulder to shoulder with one of these amerikans, at a dance, a 'desertive ' one ... he did two tours in Viet Nam as a marine, so you know he was no draftee, marines were all volunteer, clearly he was sucked right into the propaganda of it at the start ... well, eighteen years old or something, they are easy to twist then ... he was done with the second tour, back in San Diego, a few days to go until he was out, last day they were going to pin some medal on his chest ... but he was some distance away, on liberty, had better things to do, was no longer impressed at all with the power structure, decided to come north instead ... there was a young lady involved, she was here at the time and for some reason could not cross the border south ... more to the story too, anyway this was no potsmoking hippy, but a unique individual who had been there and done that and worked out his own truths about the whole thing ... he had a hard time getting the amnesty, being techically a deserter not a dodger, spent some time in gaol when he crossed south, after having been promised a simple signing of papers and a cordial handshake .... ended up, guess what, hanging out with the odd hippy ... and from time to time, at least one logger What if they had a war, and nobody came
