The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) said its leader Massud Barzani and Jalal Talabani, head of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), held talks in Salahadin, the KDP's headquarters. They held one-on-one talks before being joined by senior officials, the KDP said in a statement issued in Arbil, the main town of Iraqi Kurdistan, a region which has been outside Baghdad's control since 1991. Talabani briefed Barzani on the outcome of his recent tour of the United States, Europe and Turkey. The two leaders also discussed the "latest developments in the Kurdish region and in Iraq, as well as the peace process" brokered by the United States between their factions, the KDP said. puk.org The statement says : The KDP leader Masud Barzani, the PUK Secretary General Jalal Talabani and leadership members of both parties, on the 7th and 8th of September held historical sessions in Saladdin, Erbil, which have created great sense of optimism among the people of Kurdistan and Iraq as well. The sessions which were held in a friendly atmosphere were devoted to discuss the position which both the PUK and the KDP will have to adopt toward the future of democracy,freedom,pluralism and federalism in Iraq,the Kurdish question and Peace and security situation in the Middle east. Both sides had unanimous stance on the democratic changes in the international arena, war on terrorism and making use of the potential changes to better serve the people of Iraq and Kurdistan. At the meeting, four committees were formed to prepare a joint project of federalism, normalize the situation in the Kurdish region, tackle the security problems and to draw a joint policy towards the developments,in the region and international arenas.
