British Energy's Hartlepool Nuclear Plant Unit 2 Offline

LONDON - The 593-megawatt Unit 2 at British Energy PLC's Hartlepool nuclear power station went offline Friday, Balancing Mechanism data show.
The unit had been exporting 190 MW before output fell to zero around 0830 GMT, the data show.

A company spokesman declined to comment on the outage.

On Thursday, an industry source told Dow Jones Newswires that British Energy is planning to take two units in the U.K. offline this weekend, one at Hartlepool and one at Heysham 2.

Hartlepool's Unit 1 was exporting normally, the data show.
