That's temporary, and hardly suffices as a coathanger, never mind a hook to hang one's respect on. I knew when I typed that one it would be misunderstood. Should have gone back and edited it. All that means is that Islamists movements in other countries lack a Khomeini. He pulled together the two blocs Keppel considers essential--the urban poor and the "devout middle class." Held them together through some crucial moments of change, then threw them overboard once he had solidified his position. In one form or another, other attempts were unable to wed these two groups effectively.
