so why do Bush and Company say Afghanistan is a success,

depends on what the end-goal is/was. Many of us may not be privy to that.

if it was 'disrupting AQ' and/or getting rid of Taliban, then yes it has been successful.

if there were longer term objectives, we gotta wait for the longer term, before we say yay/nay.

Agree with kumar...and since I don't have exact quotes from Bush or anyone else on your "success" comment, I can't comment on it...can only say what my gut tells me.

We have for surely disrupted the Al Qaeda....and the Taliban as well. That for such a short time, is a success, IMO.

I hear hatred and disdain in the comments....and IMO again, those are a ticket to nowhere. Maybe my "hearing" is off...suppose'?
