Certainly, that is not disputed. It allows us to detect the hidden agendas, faking, and attempts to mislead which occur so frequently in the face-to-face world which is fraught with negative consequences--from why one is returning an item to the store to why one is late for work (it is not because they were in the drunk tank for half of the night...but the boss may yet infer something of the truth...)

Well some would argue differently--but we agree on this.
