IIRC, Intel and STM use about the same technology, checking for varying levels of capacitor charge state. AMD uses a process of multiple capacitors.

EDIT: From one of the referenced technical papers it is a multi-level NOR cell like Intel's. Makes sense since the article tgp linked referenced this aspect.
