Being a dictatorship has nothing to do with it one way or another. Socialism and communism are economic systems. A dictatorship is a political system. Tim, this is the last time I will say this.........Russia was a dictatorship. With dictatorships, typically, there is not a socialistic, capitalist or communistic economic model instead its most likely to be a hodge podge. And that's because with a dictatorship the power and money gravitate to a central authority who's center is the dictator. Its why the death the dictator of a country is greeted with some fear by surrounding countries; usually a period of economic and political instability follow the dictator's death. I am unclear why you persist in believing that Russia had a socialistic or communistic political and economic structure. It did not. So would Cuba putting in open air markets with lots of free enterprise products in the center of Havana, make it a capitalist nation? The real world is not as neat and tidy as theories can be. No country is or ever has been 100% capitalist or 100% socialist/communist. Cuba has become more capitalist but most of its productive capacity is still owned by the state and the state exerts a lot of control over the relativly small amount of private industry so no Cuba is not capitalist. The state does not own Cuba's production facilities, Castro does. He too is a dictator. Dictatorships are famous for rewriting the principle laws of the universe........why not political/economic theories as well. Your original point, which you repeat in this post was that they called themselves communists. But they called themselves socialists. The DDR called themselves democratic. Of course that doesn't mean they where democratic. The fact that the USSR called itself socialist doesn't mean that it was. It was but it was not that way because of its name. Nor in any other way.........again, why you insist that you are right blows me a way. I showed the link that explained the duplicity of Lenin and Trotsky. You've seen the truth and now you can believe what you want. ted
