RED FLAG ALERT: ASHCROFT DEMANDS CUTS IN FBI TERRORISM WORK JUST BEFORE ATTACK, MALADAPTIVE RESPONSE CUTS LIBERTIES

Pat,

From the article: "Sen. Patrick Leahy: The Department of Justice made some major mistakes. They did not pay attention to the so-called Phoenix memo, which told them that some of these people wanted were on the terrorist lookout (list) were out trying to take flying lessons. Then (FBI Agent) Coleen Rowley in Minneapolis testified before my committee that information that they developed was not being used. That was a problem at the Department of Justice. Ironically, a lot of that was coming in the weeks before Sept. 11 being shunted aside, not being followed-up on. then it turned out on Sept. 10, that Attorney General Ashcroft was recommending that they cut very substantially the courterterrorism budget that had been put in place by the Clinton administration. All that has been in the press and all that is accurate. "

*****

This is a screaming "Red Flag"! What in the world was Trashcroft up to? Instead of trying to secure our domestic tranquility by detaining and deporting terrorists who were known to authorities, he comes out days after the 9/11 attacks and attacks our civil liberties with the wickedly misnamed U.S. Patriot Act. This should be a huge "SOMETHING'S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE!" alert.

No wonder most of the Moslem world thinks Osama Bin Laden had nothing to do with the 9/11 attacks. What are we to believe?
-Ray

I find it telling that Ashcroft had moved to decrease the intelligence budget last Sept 10th

Not as telling as Ashcroft avoiding commercial planes just at the time that the Taliban leader was telling the administration about the upcoming attacks.
