INTC also plans to have Hyper Threading available on all speeds at or above 3GHz begining Q4. Analysts retain their cautious opinions following co's mid-qtr update last Thurs: SG Cowen maintains their Mkt Perform rating on their cautious outlook for the rest of the year. Merrill Lynch remains concerned over INTC's ability to generate generous gross margins in 2003 and reiterates their Neutral rating. 3:02PM Equities advance as shorts fear relief rally : Equities helped by cleaning up of positions by short-sellers. Investors may remember that market experienced a rather sizeble relief rally after Independence Day passed without incident. On July 5, Dow soared 325 pts and the Nasdaq raced 68 pts higher - and that was just a half-day. 1:49PM NVIDIA raises Q4 wafer orders (NVDA) 10.70 +1.45: -- Update -- Dow Jones is reporting that NVDA raised wafer orders for Q4. Resistance for the Semi HOLDRs is at 24.75 with supports at 24.1 and 23.90. 10:53AM NVIDIA rallies on TSM rumor (NVDA) 10.87 +1.62: -- Update -- Stock makes impressive advance in the face of warning by primary competitor ATYT (+4.4%), which has also now turned positive. Trading floors attributing ability to shake off ATYT warning to rumor that NVDA has placed a meaningful order with foundry Taiwan Semi and short-covering. 10:37AM Nasdaq Composite Intraday : -- Technical -- Impressive push in the semi sector (SOX +4.8%) helps push the Nasdaq Comp to resistance in the 1318/1320 area (38% retrace of Aug/Sep slide and 20 day ema). A solid secondary resistance zone comes into play thereafter in the 1330/1339 area (50 day sma, congestion, 50% retrace). Intraday supports are at 1310 and 1305/1303. 9:52AM Asyst (ASYT) 8.69 +0.11: This provider of automation systems is trading slightly higher after USB Piper Jaffray initiated with Outperform and price target of $10. Firm notes that automation is expected to be one of fastest growing sectors within broader semiconductor equipment industry, and believes co can generate growth ahead of the automation sector over next 3-5 years due to strong relationships with fast-growing foundries and its leading position within rapidly expanding AMHS sector of the automation market; forecasts a 3-5 year revenue growth rate for Asyst of 25%; near-term, fundamental environment will remain challenging as customers look to conserve capital until semiconductor device end market conditions improve. 9:22AM Intersil initiated with Hold at Needham (ISIL) 17.71: Needham initiates with a Hold rating based on the belief that ISIL's share price will be "significantly influenced by sentiment" as a result of the impact of a decelerating wireless LAN mkt.
