Is it just me, or is anybody else already tired of the exaggerated focus on this anniversary of 9/11? I know this was a tramautic incident for our country, but the incessent focus on it is making me less, rather than more, sympathetic to the victims' families. Yahoo reports the market "up slightly on the day before 9/11." Huh? This is supposed to be a market moving anniversary??

Even our little town, a continent away from New York, is planning a memorial service.

ENOUGH already.

Am I just being a curmudgeon, or does anybody else feel the same way?

I don't understand what all this distrust is about. I just met a new neighbor over the weekend. We ran into each other out front. She told me her name. It's Sharon. I told her mine, which really is Karen. We discussed bike trails in the area. She mentioned that she had been on one of them already with another neighbor. I told her that I used to ride one of the trails all the way out by Dulles Airport, that the ride was slightly uphill going out so you could ride until you got tired and then coast back, except, of course, for the hill at the end that we live on.

I accepted everything she told me. I have no reason to think that she didn't accept what I said. It never occurred to me to question her veracity. She might want to check another source or talk to me some more before she accepts my judgment on that trail I recommended, although she could as easily watch the terrain as she goes to make sure the trip back is as easy as I said. The worst risk she would take would be to start the trip and find it wasn't as I described in and have to abort it. The worst risk I take is to call her Sharon in front of someone who knows that she gave me an alias and get laughed at.

Goodness. Life would be unbearable if we didn't accept most of what people tell us.
