Tim, <Cotton was grown in areas so unsuitable to it that the needed irrigation caused massive ecological devastation and the resources put in to producing the cotton where less then the value of the cotton even if you ignore the cost of the environmental damage.> I've heard that the yellow dust storms that blow across Korea (and maybe Japan) a few days per year is due to expansion of the Gobi Desert. And that desert has been expanding due to Chinese overcultivation of the land. Your comment above sounds applicable. I hope people don't get confused between a communism and a socialism. The former is a dictatorship, while the latter can be (but not necessarily) a highly-regulated free market. Tenchusatsu
