Now we have a race among IC companies to say that "We are First" to market with various flavors of multi-mode 802.11 chips.

The Wi-Lan agreement with Fujitsu doesn't appear to have gotten investors excited. The Japanese chip companies have been largely out of the race for WLAN and other wireless parts. This agreement could turn into something better than the Philips agreement - which hasn't benefitted Wi-Lan much. Perhaps investors were hoping that Wi-Lan would have locked up Intel, Broadcom or Intersil.
