Maurice, thoughout History, people have been ruled using either a "Tribal Chief" or a "Witch Doctor." The Muslims are using two virulent forms of this, "Arab Socialism," and "Islamism." Iraq, Syria and Egypt are the "Arab Socialism" model, Iran and the Taliban are the "Witch Doctor" model. The "Witch Doctor" model is much more virulent.

It is much easier to knock off Saddam and replace him with a new Government than to knock off the Mullahs in Iran or the Al Queda in Afghanistan. With Saddam gone, the people have less ideological underpinning to hang on to. The Islamists are individually still there in Iran and Afghanistan, and will take much more followup to keep under control.

Religion is tougher to beat. Islam is the hardest to beat, because, of the worlds great Religions, it is the only one whose principles reads as a textbook on how to conduct a war. That is why it is rightfully known as a "Barrack's Religion."
