Attacking Iraq Will Set Off A Chain Reaction

Glad to see you back, Scott. This board has been so "NeoCon" for the last 50 posts that I was about to "Cry Havoc, and unleash the Dogs of War!" :^)

I read the list of "Fears" from the post you cited. We have been chatting a good bit recently about the hazards involved with "Taking Counsel with your Fears." The main fear that Wooley highlighted in his laundry list was

"I have never in my adult life seen the American system more vulnerable to foreign retribution."

Every year we have some Novel come out, based on the concept that a Foreign country or group will put us under by using "Economics" on us. They are, IMO, all silly.

We are the Economic engine of the world. Even if a group was willing to ruin their own economy in order to get us, it would not work. We get only 1/3 of our oil from the ME, and could replace it for a short while without any major "hiccup" if we had to.

The truth of the matter is that we have so much force available in the ME that we could take the oil if we needed to. But this would never need to happen. These countries need us more than we need them. I think the real version of the quote above is:

"I have never in my adult life seen the American system less vulnerable to foreign retribution."

The poster' s agenda in that laundry list was evident : higher gold prices

Hope springs eternal among some people (Chomsky's multi million Afghan massacre being a fine example.)

Ya know, I keep hearing that, and it never comes true.
