Two explosions and a completely predictable assassination attempt, and the author whose opinion you presumably find compelling thinks Afhganistan is another Vietnam?

What universe does your man inhabit?

I can think of about five or six different substantive distinctions between Afghanistan and Vietnam, but I really wonder if mentioning them would even get across.

But I'll try, though I think I detect a closed mind:

1.- Afghanistan was a harbor for AQ, an organization that launched 9/11. Remember? Did it make any sense to allow the Taliban and AQ to continue to use Afghanistan as a base for similar attacks on the US? Vietnam never did serve as such a base for terror attacks on US soil.

2.- Two explosions and an assassination attempt do not a Vietnam make. Do you really think that things will get so bad in Afghanistan that we'll have hundreds of thousands of servicemen there, as we did in Vietnam? Who will they fight?

Oh, well, I've tried.
