In referring to the 9/11 terrorists, it is telling if you put quotation marks around the word terrorist, as rich4eagle did. It's also telling if, in referring to the 9/11 terrorists, you choose, from among the available nouns, not 'terrorist,' not 'killers,' not 'suicide bombers,' not 'suicide hijackers,' not 'hijackers,' not 'Islamist fanatics,' not 'Muslim extremist fanatics,' not 'brainwashed murderers,' not 'mass murderers,' but.... martyrs. In a way, each of the descriptives above is true, including that the definition of 'martyr' in the dictionary fits even vicious, hate-filled fanatics who set out to murder innocent people and are willing to die to to it. But... if you choose, from all the available nouns, the word martyr, you are revealing admiration for the "martyrs." You are conveying that to you, there is a significant heroic quality to their act.
