Very interesting column..Fukiyama and me...wow that makes my day. :-) A few comments:

..the European Union was deliberately intended to embed those sovereignties in multiple layers of rules, norms and regulations to prevent those sovereignties from ever spinning out of control again.

And it's working too...on THOSE sovereignties. Too bad it's not the Kaiser or Napoleon who's the problem now. The US and the EU (not to mention the UN) are so far apart on what constitutes a "threat" it will probably take another big attack to achieve anything like a consensus. Also, considering the vastly different opinions on where power (should) flow from, the US and Europe will have to "agree to disagree" on that one. Obviously the EU elites will never accept the US concept of "We the People" are ultimately in charge.
