The exception to the 49th parallel boundary is that it turns south in the channel separating Vancouver Island

The other exception is the Northwest Angle tacked on to the northern edge of MN and extends just above 49'.

You even got that wrong.

Some was meant to be hyperbole, but some was wrong. I am not clear the relationship of that event to the statehood of Texas and other contemporary events. I think it well could have been a distraction, much like Iraq is today, but that is a time section of American history that I am not familar enough with to understand exactly what was going on and why it was going on.
