Yeah, that's a big fear of mine as well. It could be like an S&L crisis in scale of impact, in the sense that lot's of loans go into default and consumer spending gets hammered. Mortgage defaults are already on the rise, probably from 2nd mortgages etc.

William Gross( of Pimco) cites as his reason for a 5,000 Dow on earnings versus values in Treasuries, saying stocks are currently about 40% overpriced.

Incidentally, I wouldn't call him a pundit, as mindmeld does. Most of the analysts at the major houses forecast market gains, not declines. Pundits (those who write, or broadcast comment, about the market for a living) seem like permabulls to me, but maybe that's just a reflection of those whom they interview. If most of them are bullish (so what else is new?), that's what they seem to reflect.

I try to ignore both groups because one feeds the other.
