It pains me a bit to see the heroism, nobility, and sacrifice of 9/11 twisted, like a round peg into a square hole, into an irrelevant argument in an extraneous debate. It seems to me to be a bit of an insult, though I suppose that some will disagree. And some will agree. Though I don't start with any surviving respect for Will. As recently as the year before the clamor for the Clinton impeachment, I read Will much as I read Safire, sometimes interesting, sometimes not; sometimes insightful, sometimes not. But his columns since then have been about defamation of his political opponents.
