But if I may re-phrase your question to "where did those $32B come from?"

I think there is only one plausible source. Which is from proceeds of the sale of stocks and bonds.

I think it means institutions have been alternating between buying stocks (money fund outflows) and selling stocks (money fund inflows). And currently they just completed a weekly selling cycle. And are sitting on a mountain of dough.

It could well be that when hedge funds sell, they park the proceeds in money market funds.

9.) Willingness to lag long term inflation rate
10.) Banks flush with money to lend. (But don't apply for a loan cause they don't really want to lend to you)
11.) Money burning hole in consumer's pocket
12.) Pile OUT!
13.) Cash to PILE BACK IN!
14.) Reading too much Crammer.
15.) Believing too much Crammer.
16.) Disgust with Broker Pimp who lost them 50%
17.) Tired of watching Mutual Fund managers buy high sell low with OPM
18.) Consumer debt to soon be paid down.
