"Brian Reynolds Claims, prices, trade, and bonds
9/12/02 08:38 AM EDT
Jobless claims rose 19k to 426k, above expectations of 400k. The prior week was revised up by 4k. Continuing claims continue to rise; they were up 38k to 3,569k. Import prices were up 0.3%, above expectations of an unchanged number. Ex-oil, prices were up 0.1%. The current account deficit for the second quarter was revised significantly wider, from -$112.5 bil to a record -$130.0 bil; a little above expectations of -$125 bil. While this is an "old news" number, it increases the probability of a downward revision to 2q GDP. The 10-year was up an eigth going into the data as it caught up to yesterday afternoon's equity action; it is now up a little less than a third of a point on the higher than expected claims numbers."
