John,

I like the DOW halfing theory a lot of bears have been talking about for the past 3-4 months. That would put us at around 5800. I am kind of confident that it will get there down the road because the reality will have to eventually set in. If it takes us 13 years to get there (like Japan), well, we will get a depression instead of a recession.

I am more interested in trying to figure out where NAZ will go if the DOW is halfed. It seems that a 33% haircut from current level is inevitable if the DOW is to drop another 1/3. Interestingly, that will put S&P 500 to 600, a support level that lots of bears believe will hold.

I am planning to buy QQQ for the long run but am not sure that will be a smart idea. If the indexes are indeed to converge to the mean or go even lower, thanks to a prolonged weak economy, QQQ can get down to 15 in a blink.

best regards,
larry
