Mike-- In line with what you wrote, a question that must be asked is, "What are the consequences of being wrong?"

If Saddam is developing weapons of mass destruction and he uses them, the consequence of doing nothing can be enormous.

OTOH, if he isn't and we invade, we have lost lives-as will Iraq-and made LT enemies of the Arab world. But, IMO, terrorists will be more cautious because of the potential for consequences.

Netanyahu pointed out this morning that when Israel destroyed Iraq's nuclear facility, the UN unanimously condemned them (including the US). Very few people would argue with them now.

OTOH, if the UN doesn't enforce its own sanctions, they lose-IMO-validity.

Given the absence of a crystal ball, it aint easy.
