a bunch of software does, sebl for example... 2bb in cash and a 4bb mkt cap. Sad to say but this is commonplace now. And sebl is profitable whereas sunw is spotty in the profitability area, fwiw.

That means IBM can buy this company for a net $5B now, what a deal given that 2 years ago, SUNW was at $65 and a $200B market cap!

What'd thunk it would happen this way 2 years ago? Of course, many people got burnt along the way, including myself. Maybe it's time for Scott McNealy to go. Instead of spending your time continually bashing MSFT, why don't you focus on running your own company?

Nobody can control the economic climate or the stagnant IT spending environment. But even Cisco didn't go down 95% in a telecom market that has been deteriorating for almost 3 years now.

You can't be that stubborn and continue to bash MSFT. During this time of slow down IT spending, CTO are more incline to go with the cheaper MSFT/INTC solution. If you can't beat them, work with them. What profit have you made in Java? About as much as my grandmother selling eggs in rural China 50 years ago. What profit have you made in your IT service area? Well, is there even an IT service department in Sun? I know their support group is pretty weak from my experience interacting with them. What position is your iPlanet software solution is with regard to other enterprise software solution? Last year, it was behind BEA, IBM and Oracle. As far as I know, it's been losing shares since then. Why not focus on these areas and try to find new grounds to make revenue and profit? But given the tough critics by McNealy on MSFT in the past, maybe you need some new fresh face to forge a better relationship with Gates.

Dear Charles: Well, a poster has posted that an analyst currently calculates TANGIBLE book value at $2.29 a share. I havent verified that calculation but assuming its true this gives absolutely NO VALUE to a going business and likely Property values substantially under market. I have to believe that this absurd current market price of SUNW is related primarily to the demise of the Telecom industry (which represented 50% of Sunw's business). Frankly, I have never fully understood how ALL the Telecom industry could COLLAPSE such as it did, nor did I foresee it. I have to believe in my gut that industry will begin to make comebacks eventually (people still do communicate dont they?). So, it seems to me SUNW's future success will lie in their ability to adapt and morph into other industries as well as maintain their hold in telecom. Good chance, SUNW will emerge an even better company than before in that not so reliant on one industry. The question is, will someone scoop them up before WE THE SHAREHOLDERS get to share in the rosy future. Dont know the answer, but at these prices I think it a real danger. JDN
