Fred, Also add to that equation is that iraq arab shiites are spiritually related to iran(persians)shiites but are racially/ethnically arabs. Persians and Arabs hisorically havent gotten along either, i believe. And to that add the fact that the Kurds exist as ethnic minority problems for Turkey, Syria and Iran. But i am not convinced that prolonged use of force is the answer either. US empire is not really the way to nation build. So you got to keep your eye on the main point--Stop WMD in the hands of folks like saddam and then deal with the consequences as best you can. No it aint easy or getting easier.. mike
