I do know that you want to fight over there in the winter.

Good point.

I read somewhere that if it's too cold for diesel, the tanks have problems. Anyone know? Seems to me that we should have figured out a way around that problem - just warm the fuel tanks? Iraq can't be as cold in winter as Germany and Korea.

Schroeder knows...

Talking about Schroeder - another Schroeder's article has been translated and published by the FAZ. The original:

The Case Against Preemptive War on Iraq
By Paul W. Schroeder

The American Conservative
amconmag.com

Unfortunately no magazine content is online (yet?); the first edition is scheduled for October. Buchanan is one of the editors.

The FAZ translation:

Das großamerikanische Reich
Bushs Doktrin oder Der 11. September war kein Wendepunkt
FAZ September 14, 2002

Schroeder's theme: as bad as Hussein is it doesn't justify breaking a 500-year tradition of international conventions and the American anti-imperialistic tradition. If 9-11 was a turning point then only if the USA influence transforms from role model to hegemony.

The author was a professor of history and political science at the University of Illinois.
