Again Cary, This scenario-- 1. saddam announces he is taking iraq 2. he says he will use wmd on the battlefield if nec 3. US says we will defend 4. saddam says i have 100 agents in USA with wmd 5. Cary says nuke him then or after he uses wmd--I say american people wont allow that. I say i will be against nuking him under a credible threat of WMD on our shores. I say even if i am wrong and we ultimately nuke him then, HE will not believe it. He will not believe US will risk its homeland for feckless arab states. He will give us this terrible scenario. I say he is right. I say stop him now before this Hobsons choice. 6. GO BACK TO THE 1950s and the french choice to build their own nukes. WHY did they do it? Because they werent 100% sure that the US would live up to their committment. AND that little FRENCH deterrent helped prevent war because just as with Israel, the russians knew if they overran France in an invasion, the French would respond.
