As the last week's Barron's points out, most countries are meeting the criteria: GDP, Debt, and inflation. As usual the author missed the boat on the issue, focusing mainly on the political side of the issue, with the exception of identifying the labor market change that has to occur to accommodate the Euro conversion. I'll post later another view from multinational (US) companies which goes like this: you can lose all your profit in currency conversions. Euro conversion will get rid of the currency speculation market. Barron's article also gives the time table, I recall. Belgium, UK, and East european countries are excluded. A question: do these conversion programs have to work in different languages or simply English? Ram
