In the end, the recession was mild, shallow, and short, lasting about 7 months. It was well over with by the time the election rolled around, it just took awhile for the official reporting agencies to figure it out. Overall, growth during Bush's term was about the same as growth during Clinton's first term......

Bush did not make the "miscalculation". He was working within the construct provided by the UN resolutions which were the price of coalition support. This is a very good reason as to why Bush should tell the UN to get bent if they don't go along so that the job gets done right this time....
