"If the incident in FL is a hoax, then the 3 should be VERY heavily fined as well as prison....for ALL the costs of shutting down the highway, bringing out all the security forces, the robot searcher, helicopters, and all the other costs of security for the US...."

I live in Florida, not far from where the men were stopped. My husband and I are both utterly surprised to discover from the local news that the men were released and no charges were filed. I totally agree with you. I saw the large number of police cars out in force. This event not only upset all of Florida, it upset the nation too. Now, we hear they were "joking"? Sorry, not good enough.

If it was a hoax. But from a prosecutor's standpoint, what's there to go on? One hearsay statement. That the men allegedly made comments. The comments themselves appear vague enough that it'd be hard to make the case that they made a threat at all.

As to "copping an attitude with police", I'd never consent to a search w/o a warrant even though I have nothing to hide. But that attitude would DEFINITELY lead to their prosecution if they had anything to prosecute. Which suggests they don't.

It can be expensive and a nuisance to follow false leads in pursuit of security, but that's simply the price we hafta accept.

Another thing that bugs me is the media terminology, which said:

>>According to investigators, all three men -- a Lebanese, a Jordanian and an Iranian - are U.S. citizens - one U.S. born.<<

In which case, they aren't those other three, they're Americans.
