were there many killings of informers by the IRA or the Protestant militias?

There were a huge amount of sectarian killings on both sides. I doubt if many of them were justified. It was criminals able to run amok. Iraq central.

Now that I think about it, the Northern Ireland war was about as dirty as a war of occupation can get. It was horrific. I just hope the peace process there wins.

I know you support the Israeli cause, and many accuse the Israelis for all the problems. The fact is the British army in Northern Ireland were as bad or worse then the Israelis on many occasions. The Irish republicans did not want to "fast track" to peace though. They wanted violence and got it. Terrible violence too. On both sides.

I speak from the position of a Catholic who was raised in England, who knew nothing of my "English problem" until I met my Irish cousins for the first time (aged about 10 yrs). On our first meeting my 10 yr old cousin said to me "you English bastards". Then I heard his version of Irish history.

Later he became a doctor surgeon. A very good one too. He practised on the Iraqi side during the war with Iran.

He told me the Iraqi people were a very fine people and terribly oppressed. They are as patriotic as any American too.

We can expect them to fight to the last man (and woman) as they do love their country.

You can add that all the various factions in the country will do the same too. Even amongst themselves.
