Hi 4figureau, much of the forex reserve are in T-bills, with Japan favoring short term, and China favoring long term, until recently, with neither favoring at all.

imf.org
Japan at USD 456 billion (gold is not counted as reserve!)

china.org.cn
China at USD 227 billion

info.gov.hk
Hong Kong at USD 112 billion

taipeitimes.com
Taiwan at USD 121 billion

Here is a good snap shot mid 2001 of where all the forex reserves were in which countries
fmcenter.org

and ... the otherwise alarming trend indicating opportunity
