I believe you've escalated a simple typo into a misunderstanding of fact. Delbert's typo is that the huge spike in energy cost in California occurred in the early months of 2001 , not 2000 as was inadvertently typed. You may recall that Dick Cheney met with Ken Lay on April 16, 2001 while the spot price for a Mwh of electricity in California was hovering at around $500, up from $30/Mwh one year earlier. Cheney came out on April 18, 2001 with a statement that he supported a policy of non-intervention by FERC and the other regulators in an effort to "let free markets work". As every sane observer of the situation understands, the market was manipulated by Enron and a cheating cabal of extortion artists. And Oil Slick Dick was right there, standing up for the thieves that were destroying the California economy for the sake of small-minded greed. Cheney is an asshole. It is now 481 days since he was first subpeonaed to turn over his records of the meetings he held with energy industry executives to create the swindle called the National Energy Plan. Cheney lied about the "shortages" in electrical energy generation capacity. He lied about the markets being "free". He lied about how he was attempting to enrich all the fat cats who were bribing him to manipulate the regulators from the inside. In short, Dick Cheney has betrayed America. He is a traitor to the people of this great nation. Like his partner in crime, the Thief-In-Chief, Oil Slick Dick deserves the Three "I"s: Impeachment, Indictment and Incarceration. And did I mention disgorgement? -Ray
