Raymond,

My point has nothing to do with Bush, nothing to do with whether he has "monarchial tendencies" or has a history of mistreating the American citizen. These may be worthwhile topics for discussion, but they are beside the point.

Was post Gulf War I diplomacy mishandled (one of the points of the Gorman piece)? I think that it was, by both Bush I and Clinton. Again, this is beside the point.

I always enjoy reading an HST interview, but this is not related to the issue at hand.

At the moment, I'm concerned with this issue: is Saddam Hussein a threat to us right now? I think it's credible to say "yes". The entire world witnessed the genocide he committed on the Kurdish people. I think that, given the right opportunity, he would do the same here. Al Qaeda is at war with US hegemony (not so much the US itself), and Saddam Hussein would certainly like to damage if not destroy this hegemony through skillful attacks on the US. Further, it's likely that he has the means to do so. Should we wait for him to find the right opportunity?

There is an excellent interview with Hunter S. Thompson here.

Disgusting!

Do you really believe Hunter S. Thompson has a credible opinion to offer on anything?
