David, I agree, a reply is definitely called for, even if they do not agree. I am not sure how you could escalate your inquiries if they put them into the round file every time. In retrospect it seems a good idea that they did not send any samples to these assorted groups at this time, considering the delays. Another reason to avoid such samples is the risk of them coming in the front door and going out the back door to Intel. This is a real risk and it may be a good idea to set up a lab just for people to come in and build test systems with BSD, PostgreSQL and mySQL involving hammers. This would stop leaks and also AMD would get excellent feedback about problems encountered. This is a bit of a nuisance to the BSD, PostgreSQL and mySQL teams , since many will not be local to whatever site AMD sets up. Once the part is for sale and Intel can buy it anyway, these BSD, PostgreSQL and mySQL teams should be seeded with freeby boxes.....all set to run, since the cost is small compared to the potential gain. Just sending samples with no mother boards is not as attractive, as the teams will have to hunt up all manner of items in a busy period to make a working box. AMD should give them a basic box, +power supply with mobo and 1/2/n CPUs installed. They will have drives, CDROMS, mice keyboards etc on hand. Bill
