That is a very disturbing concern. Well if Iraq did issue that threat, even without enacting it we would not want our troops near Iraq because it would certainly be incinerated.

Also I suspect we would need our troops here controlling / protecting the populace. I suspect any threatening looking people would not survive long if any Arabs managed any chemical / biological attack here.

This danger, raised more than once in DEBKAfile, accounts for the as yet unpublished Israeli government decision to begin inoculating the entire Israeli population against smallpox after the Succoth festival, that is from September 30.

For true? (That's Cajun for "really?") Most of us here on FADG have already been inoculated for smallpox, so we don't think much of it, but there are potentially deadly or devastating neurological sequelae from inoculation. It should not be done unless there is a genuine risk.

I am sure that the persons handing out the vaccine know that.

I have to say, I wish we here in the US were given the choice as to whether to be vaccinated ourselves.

The question then becomes, what about the rest of the world? If there is a risk that Saddam will use smallpox in the near future, millions, maybe billions of people would die, mostly in the third world.

I have read an argument that Americans should be inoculated, just for that reason (same for the Israelis). It would make it less likely that Saddam would use smallpox.
