"It is pretty amazing that Hammer is now about 2 years late and the SOI process is still not ready."

The original K8 wasn't slated for SOI. So saying that the K8 is 2 years late on SOI is a bit of a stretch. AMD didn't announce their commitment to SOI until 2000, so to say that they were going to deliver a product in the same year, is well, optimistic...

Charles R,

re: SOI risk

Well they should have known.

But they were on a roll with AThlon.

The reality is that NOBODY in the WORLD is showing HIGH yields on SOI.

I think hammer will come out as they have promised but at VERY low volumes for next year.

It may be a couple of years before SOI yield issues are fixed.

regards,

Kash

RE:"The real question is whether a backup plan for K8 was put into at that time. I have my doubts"

I doubt it too. AMD should have had a backup plan running parallel but I guess they didn't have the money or worse, the smarts.
