Wasn't as good as the Gatti/Ward fight, but it was the second best fight of the year, IMO.

Vargas was very strong in the early rounds, but De La Hoya picked him apart with the jab. In the later rounds you could see DLH's conditioning come into play and then in the 10th, he caught Vargas with a solid left hook that put Vargas on the mat. Vargas was saved by the bell in that round, but then in the 11th, Vargas got caught with the left hook again and went down. He got back up but couldn't protect himself so the fight was called...TKO.

It was a classic match up of a fighter vs a boxer. And boxing skills definitely won the fight.
