right...I would look for the VIX to move over 100 at some point in the near future (1-8 months)

STCGG, you may be right, the data I had only went back to 1986.
I would think a secular bear would have some nice rallies though where VIX would go back into the teens something like what happened in the beginning of this year. Actually VIX from 4/00 is what VIX apparently does during a bear market, did not come close to 12 days straight of 35+ in the VIX during that time even though we went through the worst crash in an index since DOW 29-32. Something is up with the market right now with that sustained 35+ VIX reading. I agree, it should flatline back into in the teens again after VIX 100-150.
