defense of the borders of a sovreign nation is a basic need and legitimate function of government -- but read the quote I referenced for yourself -- sounds like big Daddy gbment to me.

The whole thrust of the article was utlizing government to accomplish the redistribution of wealth. These are failed policies -- not something I usually have thought of in conuinction with the Repubs, but I guess there really isn't that much diff between the parties any more -- they are both for MORE government -- whether it serves the basic functions of government or has a socialist agenda, as long as they can control part of it -- they just don't care.
