If there is a historic parallel to this war with Iraq, it is to the Spanish American War. Junior's advisors probably think that the U.S. did well for itself in that war picking on a formerly rich and powerful country which had lost most of it's influence. The U.S. got Puerto Rico outright, and Cuba became a puppet regime. This destabilising of Spain was one of the causes of WWI and it's millions of deaths. Part of this was because of the example the U.S. had shown with the power of it's steam driven ironclads and carterige based guns. Every country felt they had to match them. After Iraq every little country with an Apple II computer will feel the need to investigate precision guided arms and we will feel the results in 10-15 years.
