I just received this announcement from ARNAV: Mon, Sep 16 2002 ARNAV Intro's Globalstar Sat Service ARNAV Systems has just announced they will start delivery of their RCOM-100 SatPhone beginning November 2002. As an introductory promotion, ARNAV is launching a "Buy in '02 - Talk for Free in '03" program. The program provides 12 months of free airtime under the ARNAV Silver Service Plan to the first 100 Purchasers of the RCOM-100 SatPhone. The Silver Service Plan includes the basic monthly connection fee plus 60 minutes of airtime excluding tax and tariff. The Silver Plan is priced at $100.00 per month for a cumulative $1200.00 value over one year. Subscribers can upgrade to the Gold, Platinum or Fleet Plan and to apply the Silver Plan promotional value. The ARNAV RCOM-100 SatPhone is an all-digital telephony system. It uses a true packet-data modem and Qualcomm CDMA digital modulation to deliver high quality voice telephony without the time delay common to analog voice satellite systems and without the dropout associated with high bank angles and geographic positioning. Packet-data delivery rate is 9600bps for economical and secure data access through TCP/IP Internet connection. Type One Government Encryption is also available. ARNAV offers 3 handset options including a crew phone, a traditional retractor-reel handset, and a 2.4Ghz Cordless Handset that allows the users to walk around the cabin while using the SatPhone. An optional Telephone Dialer/Adapter with touchtone keypad permits the crew to access the phone system through the aircraft audio panel.
