SouthTrust Announces Enhancements to Its Online Bill Payment Service

Monday September 16, 9:43 am ET

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Sept. 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Users of SouthTrust Bank's (Nasdaq: SOTR - News)
online Bill Payment service soon will enjoy enhancements to the service at no additional cost. The upgrade,
which is planned for Sept. 30, 2002, will offer a new e-bills capability, which will allow users to receive and pay
bills electronically.

E-bills (electronic bills) are bills from participating companies that users can view and pay online. E-bills contain
the same information paper bills do, and all users have to do to pay them is point and click. Users can even
receive e-bill notification by e-mail or have their e-bills paid automatically. The service offers users a single,
organized collection point for e-bills. Users only need one password to access all of their e-bills. . .
