The best I have been able to figure out, Kashmir should have gone to Pakistan. It was mainly Muslim. India was able to block that outcome.

I was reading yesterday an article on Churchill's opposition, in the '20s, to the Freedom for India. Said it would lead to an immediate bloodbath between the Hindus and the Muslims. Turned out he was right about the bloodbath. They really had one in the '40s.
