SR,

The Baptist faith, unlike the Roman Catholic, is highly disorganized and very local in its management.

In the south if a community pulls together to build a nice church and a great deal of their social life revolves around it - where is the harm?

If you feel religion wields to strong an influence - at least pluralize church to church's to put things in proper perspective.

the unreal level of influence the church wields there.

Hey, I was a nine-year-old who got "dunked" in the glass-fronted Baptism chamber of one of those churches in Woodville, Texas in 1943! Just remember, it's the main source of Social Life down there, and the Blacks are more into it than the whites.
